Frequently Asked

Questions

Your Questions, Answered

  • What is the age requirement to host?

    25 years old.

  • Where do the exchange students come from?

    France.

  • What age are they?

    On average 14-17 years old.

  • Are host families paid?

We do provide a small stipend for gas and food allowance. According the U.S. Department of State, host families cannot receive financial gain from their participation in a student exchange program. This rule is designed to ensure that host families are participating in the program for the right reasons. In lieu of the gas and food allowance, host families may be eligible to receive a charitable tax deduction on their tax return.

  • What if it doesn’t work out?

If problems do unfortunately arise, we will take the necessary steps to resolve the issue together. If the issue cannot be resolved, we can rehome the students.

  • Are we allowed to take the student on vacation or on overnight stays?

Yes, you can take the students on vacation with you and your family! Your student must get permission from their parent, and our local Host Family Representative must be notified. They will then fill out an overnight slip. We also must be notified if you take a day trip out of San Diego County.

  • What if I have plans already during their stay and can’t take the student?

We will simply arrange for the student to stay with another host family during that time.
